Give our Regards to Minneapolis

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

The Recipe Club: A Tale of Food and Friendship had its name in lights for a one-night-only performance just outside Minneapolis, at the beautiful new Burnsville Performing Arts Center.

We are proud to have been invited to this new state-of-the-art performing arts center.

We are proud to have been invited to this new state-of-the-art performing arts center.

Produced by Joe Skelly of On-Site Authors, the event featured a reading of the play by two talented actors, Shelly Reed (Val) and Jennifer Steiskal Johnsen (Lilly), who literally gave voice to our characters–and brought them to life! (more…)

With Thanks from THE RECIPE CLUB

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

We don’t mean to gobble up your time, squash your interest, or God-forbid be corny, but really…it is Thanksgiving, the national holiday of food and friendship, and for The Recipe club to ignore this occasion would just make us look like turkeys. (Wattle’d you say? We can’t hear you.)

So we wish you the most delicious, friendly, and joyous Thanksgiving ever! Here’s an idea to make your celebration special: when you’re sitting around the table with those you love (or like, or can barely tolerate) think about using the occasion to start an impromptu Recipe Club meeting.

Start by sharing your favorite food-related story, and then ask everyone around the table to share theirs. We promise: before long you’ll all be laughing, bonding, and relaxing…and deeply thankful to not be talking about politics or religion.

We truly give thanks to all of you who buy our book, visit our site, and share your Recipe Club stories with us! Love from us to you.

Crossing Borders

They look familiar…

They look familiar…

We were surprised to be greeted at the Borders in the Time Warner Building at Columbus Circle by two women: ourselves.

Or rather, photos of us, front and center in the doorway of the mega bookstore.

When we entered, the book was beautifully displayed on the New Fiction table. We admired it, nostalgically remembering the days and months–and years–of dreaming this might happen.

The Recipe Club Hits the Road

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

In preparation for our upcoming West coast book tour, we headed to upstate New York for weekend of Autumn leafing and bookstore readings and signings.

First stop: The Village Bookstore, in Pleasantville, New York. Though it was miserably gray and rainy outside, inside the store could not have been warmer and cozier. Roy and Yvonne Solomon greeted us with the most delicious homemade rugelach, made with peach jam. Yvonne told us she rescues the bruised fruit at the end of the day from the local farmer’s market, and cans as much of the stuff as she can to last her through a gloomy winter.

We were so happy to eat these tender, sweet morsels, and even happier to share Yvonne’s recipe with you! (The reading was great also, but hey, we have our priorities.) (more…)

On the Road with The Recipe Club: Houston, Texas

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Southern hospitality reigned at Amy’s MacDougall’s gracious home in Houston. We were greeted on the veranda of a house so grand and sweeping, Scarlett O’Hara would have swooned.

We’re definitely not in Brooklyn anymore…
